Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication: The Sherman Oaks Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Ghost Controls-compatible welded gate parts in Sherman Oaks, with most fabrication and welding work on Ghost Controls hardware running between $225 and $650 installed, depending on what broke and whether we’re repairing on-site or fabricating a replacement bracket, mount, or hinge assembly in the truck. Most welded repairs are done same day when the part is on the truck, and we carry the common Ghost Controls failure points as stock items because we know which ones let go first. The typical call starts with a gate that suddenly sags, a weld that cracked at the post, or an opener arm that tore free from the gate frame after years of cycling in Sherman Oaks heat.

Here’s the pattern we see most often: a Ghost Controls opener keeps working fine, but the metal around it doesn’t. A weld at the gate-post mount fatigues, the bracket that carries the actuator arm starts to tear, or the steel gate itself cracks where the motor bracket attaches. The opener was never the problem. The fabrication was.

Before we quote anything, we photograph what’s there, identify the Ghost Controls model, and hand you a written price. I’ll tell you what I found, what it costs to fix it, and what you’ll have when I leave.

Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To

Ghost Controls sells openers and accessory hardware under a few different series lines: the AXDP and AXD series for dual and single swing gates, the TSS1 and TDS2 kits, and the R Series for retrofit applications. The welding and fabrication side of the work doesn’t change much across the series, but the mounting geometry does. The bracket that carries the actuator arm on a TDS2 dual-swing install sits at a different angle and takes a different load than the one on an AXD single arm.

The part that usually needs welding is not a Ghost Controls part at all. It’s the gate itself, the hinge post, or the steel plate the Ghost Controls bracket bolts to. Ghost Controls sells the actuator, the arm, the control board, and the mounting hardware. They don’t sell a replacement section of your gate frame or a new post cap with a reinforced plate. That’s where fabrication work comes in, and it’s why matching the fabrication to the specific Ghost Controls mounting pattern matters.

One compatibility gotcha: the bolt pattern on a Ghost Controls post bracket is not the same as a LiftMaster or Mighty Mule bracket. If someone welds in a generic plate and drills it for the old holes, the next time the opener gets replaced the new bracket won’t line up and the plate has to be cut out and redone. We fabricate with the Ghost Controls pattern in mind from the start, so the plate outlasts the opener it was built for.

OEM versus aftermarket: for the opener’s moving parts, we recommend Ghost Controls OEM components. For the welded steel that carries them, we use thicker wall stock than what came on most Sherman Oaks gates built in the last 15 years. That’s not a knock on anyone’s gate, it’s just reality: a 14-gauge frame in 110-degree valley heat with a 300-pound gate and a 20 mph wind load is going to fatigue.

Vance Gate Repair Sherman Oaks is an independent service provider and not affiliated with Ghost Controls. We service their equipment alongside LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, DoorKing, and other major brands.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

Signs Your Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
  • The gate sags at the hinge side but the opener still runs. This almost always means a hinge weld or hinge plate is cracking at the post. The opener pushes, the gate flexes at the weld, and if it isn’t addressed, the hinge tears out completely and the gate drops.
  • The opener arm is tearing loose from the gate frame. Ghost Controls arms mount to a bracket that’s attached to the gate itself. If that bracket was through-bolted through thin tubing, the tubing eventually starts to rip around the holes. We weld reinforcing plate behind the mount, redrill, and remount.
  • You can see daylight through the gate frame at the weld joints. Welded tube gates crack at the joints first, usually at the corners where the load concentrates. A hairline crack is a warning; once you can see light through it, the joint is close to full separation.
  • The post visibly moved or tipped, and the opener now struggles on the last 10 degrees of travel. A post that moves changes the geometry of the arm travel, which fights the motor and burns through capacitors faster than it should. We check post plumb and weld in post stiffeners before we ever adjust the opener.
  • The gate oscillates or shakes around the midpoint of travel. This points to a broken or loose mid-rail weld or a cracked gusset. The gate shakes because the frame isn’t rigid anymore, and every cycle makes the crack longer.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Sherman Oaks, welded fabrication work on Ghost Controls-mounted gates runs in a fairly predictable range. Here’s what we quote most often:

Professional welder performing metal fabrication and custom gate part repair work nationwide
  • Weld-on hinge replacement or reinforcement: $225 to $380 per hinge location, including grinding out the old weld, fabricating the plate, welding, and repainting the area.
  • Opener arm bracket reinforcement plate: $180 to $300, including cutting and drilling plate to match the Ghost Controls bolt pattern.
  • Cracked gate frame repair at a weld joint: $250 to $450, depending on access and how much of the joint needs to be cleaned before welding.
  • New post plate or post stiffener fabrication: $300 to $650, depending on post size and whether the gate has to be lifted off for access.

The price you get includes the steel, the welding, the grinding, the corrosion treatment, and a photo record of the finished weld before paint. It also includes the written quote you keep, so there’s no end-of-job surprise. Every welded repair we do in Sherman Oaks is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the weld fails or the repair isn’t right within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge.

What an owner can safely check: whether the gate is visibly out of plumb, whether the hinge bolts are tight, whether the opener arm has play at the mounting bracket. Those observations help us, and the more you can tell us on the phone before we arrive, the more likely we’ll have the right steel on the truck when we pull up.

What you should not do yourself: weld. This is not one of those jobs where caution is optional. Welding on a gate that’s under spring tension or on a post that’s carrying a 300-pound load is genuinely dangerous, and a bad weld on a gate that opens and closes automatically creates a failure point that can hurt someone or drop a gate on a car. We do this work with the gate properly blocked and the opener disengaged, every time, no exceptions.

If you’re in Sherman Oaks and you suspect a weld is letting go, call us at (213) 463-6296. We’ll send a technician who can assess it safely and give you a written price before any work begins.
