Meet the Sherman Oaks Team Behind Vance Gate Repair Sherman Oaks

The crew working Sherman Oaks, Van Nuys, Encino, Studio City, and the surrounding Valley neighborhoods is small on purpose. Adrian Vance has kept the local team tight since 2014 because gate work rewards people who know what they’re looking at, not people reading from a script. Every technician here has worked on commercial access control, residential wrought iron, or both. What unites them is simpler than a mission statement: they write the price before touching a tool, they photograph the work, and they answer the phone when it rings. Even at 2 a.m. when a gate motor decides it’s done living.

Our People

Marco D. - Lead Technician, Gate Repair

Marco has been with Vance since 2017 and has probably worked on more Sherman Oaks driveway gates than anyone else in the crew. He came up through commercial access control, which is where he learned to read a wiring diagram the way most people read a street map. Marco handles the heavy diagnosis: swing-gate motors that hum but don’t move, photo-eyes that were never aligned in the first place, and limit switches set past travel. His specialty is LiftMaster and BFT systems, though he’ll be the first to say the brand matters less than who installed it. Off the clock he rebuilds old BMW motorcycles in a garage in North Hollywood, which explains why he’s comfortable staring at a problem for an hour before saying a word.

Dana R. - Senior Installer, Gate Installation & Welding

Dana joined the team in 2019 after eight years doing ornamental ironwork across Los Angeles County. She welds MIG and TIG, which covers everything from a cracked hinge bracket on a Mid-Century modern gate in Sherman Oaks to a full custom steel frame in Studio City. When a gate install calls for concrete anchors, a saw cut for the power run, and a post that needs to be dead plumb, Dana’s the one who sets it. She also handles the on-site fabrication when a gate parts order won’t arrive in time and something has to be made to work that day. Dana keeps a hardback copy of Machinery’s Handbook in her truck and will absolutely quote from it if you ask about load ratings.

Paul K. - Service Coordinator

Paul is the person who answers when you call (213) 463-6296. He’s been on the phones with Vance since 2015 and knows the trade well enough to tell the difference between a gate that won’t open because of a bad board and one that won’t open because the remote battery died. That matters because Paul’s job is to get the right technician to the right house with the right parts on the first trip. Before any dispatch, he sends the customer the name and photo of the technician coming out. Paul works the overnight shift three days a week and has never once told a caller to leave a voicemail. His desk has a small sign that says “no callback queue,” which is less a joke and more a policy.

Luis M. - Apprentice Technician

Luis started with Vance in 2023 and pairs with Marco on repair calls across Sherman Oaks and Encino. He’s in year two of his apprenticeship and already handles gate motor wiring under supervision, which says more about the training than about Luis, though he’s got steady hands and doesn’t rush. His background before gates was residential electrical rough-in, so he understands how a transformer feeds a control board and why a GFCI trip kills a gate in a way most new techs don’t. Luis documents every job with the photo log, which under Clause 4 means before the team leaves, the customer has a visual record of what was found, what was adjusted, and what was replaced. On weekends he plays competitive darts in Burbank and is unreasonably good at it.

One Standard, Every Job

One Standard, Every Job

The Haven Standard isn’t a poster on the wall. It’s the actual operating rule, the same one Adrian Vance brought with him from commercial access-control work starting in 2014. Clause 1 says the price is written and handed to the customer before any work begins, and no one on this crew has ever surprised a homeowner with an invoice at the end of a job. Clause 3 backs every completed repair with the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something isn’t right within a full year, Vance comes back and makes it right with no fee and no argument. Clause 4 is the documentation habit. When Marco or Dana leaves a Sherman Oaks property, the customer has a photographed record of every adjustment and a written part number for anything installed. The team works the same way on a $200 hinge repair and a $9,000 gate system replacement because the standard doesn’t scale. It just applies.
