Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

• The gate sags visibly at the latch end. This almost always traces to a worn or broken bottom hinge weld at the post. The leaf’s weight sits on that hinge, and when the weld stretches, the whole gate drops.
• You hear a pop or groan when the gate moves. A cracked weld flexes under load, and the sound is the metal faces grinding against each other. In Sherman Oaks we hear this most after the rainy season, when moisture has worked into a hairline crack and accelerated rust.
• The FAAC operator strains or the gate stops mid-travel. When the mounting bracket flexes or the hinge binds, the operator’s obstruction sensing trips early. The board thinks it’s hitting a car, but it’s hitting a bent piece of steel.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things before you call. Look at the hinge welds with a flashlight and see if you can spot a hairline crack or rust stain running along the bead. Push gently on the gate near the bottom hinge while someone watches the weld: if you see movement, that’s meaningful. You can photograph what you find and measure the gap under the latch end with a tape measure.

What you shouldn’t do is fire up a welder on a gate that’s connected to a live FAAC operator. The current from the weld can find its way back through the operator ground and take out the board. We’ve seen it more than once in Sherman Oaks: a homeowner welds a hinge in place, and the operator that worked fine before the repair won’t respond after.
